ELAN aims to provide harmonized, accessible and user-friendly information to researchers, practitioners and policymakers. Currently, information about the role of ecosystems in human adaptation is dispersed; and there is a need for providing a “one-stop” virtual platform for users interested in incorporating environmental elements into adaption planning and practice.

Towards this goal, ELAN is exploring possible options for sharing knowledge sharing on ecosystems and human adaptation, including a virtual library, classified thematically and geographically, a forum and a wiki to share and update best available adaptation practices, and the possibility to connect to other users, experts and practitioners.

In addition, there remains considerable potential for promoting sound ecosystem management within human adaptation strategies through other adaptation knowledge repositories. In order to fulfill this potential, ELAN builds on and collaborates with existing adaptation and ecosystem management knowledge platforms.
